Cloud Computing & Music

This is a note I received from Bob Donovan who applauds using Cloud Computing for all of his music... 

"My music is stored in iTunes on my computer. But I've also put it up in Amazon's music cloud (basically because of the Kindle that I own).  

Currently I have 50,595 songs in the cloud. On my computer these songs take up 224 GB. I'm paying Amazon $24.99 per year for this storage. So far, I'm really pleased with it. It's not as simple or beautiful as iTunes, but it works great and I don't think there's any limit.  

Naturally, I normally have to use the search function to find an artist or song or album and that seems to work fine online. 

I also downloaded Amazon's picture storage app, but haven't tried to use it yet-will keep you posted" 

Once you pay for an "app" you can download that app to multiple devices, such as your smartphone - kindle - tablet - etc...How does it know, because Amazon (like other companis) stores the information in your Amazon Account.

What are Drivers?

DRIVERS ARE THE SOFTWARE PROGRAMS THAT CONTROL HARDWARE DEVICES.

All devices (printer, disk drive, keyboard, mouse) must have a driver software program.

Many drivers, such as the keyboard driver, come with the operating system; for other devices, you may need to “load” a new driver when you connect the device to your computer.

• In DOS systems, drivers are files with a.SYS extension
  In Windows environments, drivers often have a.DRV extension

Each device has its own set of special commands that only its driver knows. In contrast, most programs access devices by using generic commands. Almost all drivers can be “downloaded” directly from the manufacturer’s website, to ensure that you have the most current DRIVER installed on your system.

If a device isn't working correctly - such as your printer, scanner, webcam etc. - go to the manufacturer's website and "download" the driver again - it will see that you have software on your computer already for the hardware and will simply modify the instructions/softeware already on your computer.

Personally I do this twice a year (such as when the clocks change) to make sure my driver software is always the most up-t-date. it's quick and easy and it's free..

Email Attachments

Most email providers allow you to “ATTACH” photos and other files stored on your computer, memory sticks or other drives. Most providers utilize an ATTACH button feature, some give you multi-options, such as being able to attach files or photos.
When you activate the ATTACH button, many providers use the BROWSE feature, which opens your computer filing system so you can find & select what you want to attach. Making sure your work, photos, music and videos are properly filed in the right "drawer" will help make it easier for you to find what you want to attach.
When you activate the ATTACH feature, the computer makes a copy of whatever you are attaching, so that the original remains in the folder where you have it stored and it will UPLOAD a copy of whatever you are attaching to send along with the email.

Many providers today actually put photo’s into the body of the email message, eliminating the need to DOWNLOAD them by the viewer
When you attach something to an email or receive an email with an attachment, the computer indicates what it is – after the name… such as

• Septemberreport.doc - .doc indicates it is a document (.txt, .pdf, .xls-spreadsheet)
• Sunflower.jpg - .jpg indicates it is a photo (.bmp, .tif, .gif, png -other photo formats)
• Russianiceshow.ppt - .ppt or .pptx is a power point slide show (.pps .ppsx: full power point)
• Sallysrecital.wmv – .wmv indicates it is a video/movie
• Overtherainbow.wma - .wma or .mp3 indicates audio-music files

When you receive an attachment, you can then go to File - Save As to save it on your computers file system for future use

What is Power Point Viewer?

This is a free software application program that allows you to see Power Point Presentation (slide show) even when you don't have Power Point installed on your computer. So you can see the slide who - save it - and then be able to resend it on to someone else - you cannot however create a new presentation or change/modify any presentations you've received or saved.

To download this to your computer you can go to Microsoft.com, choose the download section OR
Left click on the link below which will take you directly to the download page - simply use the download button and follow the wizard... - your computer will put it where it belongs....
